There has been an increase in demand for the pearl necklaces and other jewelry. Extra care has to be taken when storing pearls as they get easily damaged for today’s pollutions and environmental changes. One has to take as much care in storing pearls as they take while purchasing the pearl necklaces. When dirt gets laid on these gems, they start damaging the exterior pearl surface and slowly eat up the gems making it rough and look dirty. Dust has to be regularly wiped ff from time to time with a soft cloth.
Also, keep pearls away from makeup equipment. Always wear them after you complete the makeup part so that perfume or other cosmetics does not settle on the necklace while applying them. Use a wet cloth dumped in warm water and cleans the pearls. Later wipe the water particles using a dry soft cloth and store the pearls or pearl ornaments in a separate compartment of a jewelry box. If you cannot arrange place in a special compartment of a jewelry box for the pearls, then put the pearls in the soft cloth pouch and hang it for a dresser or store in a closet. Never mix the pearls with any other jewelry in the safe box because the chances of pearls to get damaged when rubbed against other jewelry metals increases. It is a good idea to put apiece of chalk in the jewelry box so that it absorbs water left off on the ornaments. Always make sure that you use no detergents that contain ammonia or other acidic elements in the solution used to clean pearls.
